What’s been your favourite episode so far?
Why did I start a podcast?
If you’re anything like me, you’ve listened to 1000’s of hours of podcasts over the years and they’ve had a big influence on your life.
You become what you consume.
I’ve learned so much valuable information from podcasts that I’ve applied in my life.
Since becoming an investor and business owner – I’ve understood the importance of not only being a ‘consumer’ of information, but becoming a ‘producer’ of information.
We all have knowledge and experience that can benefit others. If you’re not sharing your knowledge yet, I encourage you to do so.
Before I had my own podcast, I was forever sending people podcast episodes of other people’s podcasts to listen to…
But I thought to myself,
‘How cool would it be if I could give people value by sending them my own episodes?’
Why I love having a podcast:
- You build credibility and authority in your niche (which increases your ‘perceived value’)
- Your audience can build a deeper relationship with you and your brand (people buy from people they know, like and trust)
- A podcast becomes a product in and of itself (you are building a digital asset)
- You can create an episode once, and share it forever (digital leverage)
- It’s an incredible way to network and connect with cool people
- It’s a great way to give free value to your audience
- You get to collaborate with other experts (which helps both your brands)
But my favourite part of podcasting is simply the fact I get to sit down with interesting people and learn about their stories. It’s seriously one of my favourite activities to do!
Start your own podcast today
Since I started my podcast, I’ve had other people reach out to me for help so they can start their own. That’s the cool thing about learning something new – you can teach other people the skill.
I used to think that starting a podcast was this massive scary thing.
But I’ve now learned starting a podcast is a super simple process and you don’t need much to get going.
All you need is:
- An idea
- A good mic (I recommend ‘Rode’)
- A podcasting platform (I use ‘Podcasters’ which is free and ‘Riverside’ for interviews)
And that’s pretty much it!
Of course there are more little nuances that you need to know, but you learn them when you start taking action and engaging in the process.
Do you need a business to start a podcast?
No!
Even if you don’t have a business, podcasting can be a great vehicle for you to share your hobbies and things that interest you.
Over time you will build an audience of other people who also enjoy those things. And who knows, down the track your interests could turn into a business, or an amazing opportunity could come your way!
The process of starting a podcast is a great learning experience in and of itself and one I highly recommend.
If you’ve been wanting to start your own podcast, I hope this newsletter gives you the little push you need to get going.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
