As I read that message,
I felt a rush of emotion wash over me.
I could feel the tears build up in my eyes.
And instead of resisting it, I let the emotions pour out of me.
I was a sobbing mess.
Tears streamed down my face. Snotty nose. As I re-read the quote and looked at the picture, more tears kept pouring out of me.
I left my office. Grabbed a tissue. Blew my nose. And walked into the loungeroom where Kaci was getting the kids dressed.
Straight away Kaci could see the emotion still fresh in my eyes.
“What happened?” she asked.
Reading the letter made me reflect on how lucky we are. That we have the time to be with our kids. That we have the resources and support to provide for them and give them a good start in life.
And it made me feel immensely sad that there are so many families and children out there struggling. Who don’t have the financial resources we have. Who don’t have the support we have.
And perhaps, there was a part of me that could relate to the struggle.
Not because I grew financially disadvantaged. Not because I didn’t have loving parents. Not because I didn’t get a good education.
But because in recent years, I’ve felt the pressure of becoming a parent and providing for my family on inconsistent and unpredictable business income.
