I was lifting some big weights in the gym, but my physique was the sloppiest it’s ever been. I was huffing and puffing while walking up stairs because of the extra weight I was carrying.
It felt great being one of the biggest dawgs in the gym and being able to move big weights.
But I felt embarrassed to take my shirt off.
And my face was swollen like I’d been stung by a colony of bees.
That’s what happens when you do a dirty bulk.
You eat a large excess of calories, and don’t really care how clean the food is.
So you put on muscle and strength quickly, but you also put on a lot of excess fat…
It actually gets quite draining.
I was scoffing down 5+ Weet-bix right before bed with milk and protein.
My behaviour during my “dirty-bulk” phase reminds me of how some people treat their investment portfolios.
They want to accumulate as many assets (usually property) as fast as possible so they can look like a big dawg.
But behind the scenes, they’re finances are flabby (and flaky) AF.
Yes,
They can brag about their massive bench press (the value of their portfolio or how many properties they own).
But the extra fat (debt/leverage) they’ve accumulated as a by-product is slowing them down and is a burden to their financial health (and wellbeing).
And if an unexpected event were to occur in the market/economy, they are at severe risk of losing their “dirty-bulk gains”.
Now don’t get me wrong,
Doing a “dirty-bulk” can sometimes be beneficial for your physical or financial goals.
But there comes a time when that extra-weight becomes a burden.
And sometimes you don’t realise it until you look back at a photo of yourself and see how much you’ve let yourself go…
And that’s when you finally know it’s time to cut the fat.
