“Working with me right now would put you in a worse financial position.”
This is what Kaci overheard me say during a call with a customer last week.
At dinner, she questioned me.
“Why are you turning down sales?”
Fair question.
As a financial coach,
It’s of utmost importance to me to ensure when I’m working with someone the investment in my service doesn’t put them in a more challenging financial position – even if they’re a great fit character wise (this person was).
Last year,
I changed my processes.
This has been pivotal.
Because now both myself and my potential clients gain complete clarity on their current financial position. And it makes it blindingly obvious whether we should proceed to a longer-term commitment or not.
In the Financial Fitness Assessment I had last week,
We unpacked their situation. And we both agreed now was not an appropriate time to invest in an ongoing commitment. So we collaborated on a simple action plan they could implement on their own to start building financial stability.
In the next 30 days we will touch base to see how things are going.
Experience has taught me,
Pushing too hard on the sales side of the equation when the fit is not quite right will often end in resentment for both the client and me.
That energy serves no one.
And you know what the funny thing was?
The very next day,
I signed a new client who recently completed a Financial Fitness Assessment with me. They were a great fit, and had the financial resources to work with me.
It was a good reminder.
That life rewards you when you do the right thing, not the easy thing.
And it’s also why I’m so passionate about helping more people understand what financial fitness actually looks like before they make big decisions.
Which brings me to this.
If you’re based in Adelaide,
I’d love to invite you to an upcoming event I’ll be speaking at.
On Friday the 13th of February, from 6:30am to 8:30am, I’ll be delivering a presentation on Financial Fitness to a room of 80+ small business owners and professionals.
I’ll be sharing my Financial Fitness Framework and walking through the thinking behind the Financial Fitness Assessment – both of which were developed in 2025 and will be presented live for the very first time.
If you enjoy business, meaningful conversations, and personal development — this will be a great room to be in.
