Hey Legend,

Have you ever looked at someone and thought,

“They’re just so lucky”?

Here’s the truth – lucky people aren’t magical. They simply do things that compound.

That quote comes from Justin Welsh, one of my favourite solopreneurs, and it hit me so hard I had to share it with you this week.

“Lucky people aren’t magical. They just do things that compound. Build more. Write more. Meet more people. Introduce more people. Luck often follows smart behavior.” – Justin Welsh

This message isn’t just about money or business – it’s about life. Because just like money compounds, so do habits, behaviors, and actions.

Let’s unpack these four simple but powerful ideas.

1. Build More (or Create More)

We are creative beings. Whether you believe in God or not, we were made to build and create – it’s part of our nature. But as we grow up, most of us become consumers instead of creators. We scroll, watch, and consume other people’s creations.

To become “luckier,” we need to flip that switch – from consumer to creator.

For me, that shift happened when I started posting about my financial coaching journey 6+ years ago. Creating my podcast, writing this newsletter, building coaching programs – these are all ways I build.

Each creation adds value to others, and in doing so, increases my “luck surface.” The more I build, the more opportunities find me – podcast interviews, new clients, collaborations.

And here’s the best part: you don’t have to be good at it to start (I sucked!). You just need to start with something you enjoy. Because when you enjoy it, you’ll keep going long enough to get better – and that’s when the compounding begins.

It reminds me of an incredible woman I did some work with a couple of years ago. She turned her talent and creativity into a business venture – she posted this video the other day on Facebook, and I was blown away! Check it out here

2. Write More

Writing is thinking.

Before you can write clearly, you have to think clearly – and thinking is the hardest work there is. That’s why writing is such a powerful tool for growth.

When I write my weekly newsletter, I’m not just sharing ideas – I’m clarifying them for myself. Writing helps you integrate your thoughts, develop your voice, and communicate more effectively.

And here’s something I’ve noticed: in a world full of shortcuts and AI tools like ChatGPT (which I sometimes use for structure and brainstorming, not writing), the ability to think and write well is becoming a superpower.

Everyone can write, but few develop their own voice. That takes time, repetition, and courage to share what you think – even when it’s not perfect.

So if you want to expand your opportunities, start writing more. Journal. Post on social media. Draft a newsletter. You don’t even need to publish it – just start.

3. Meet More People

This one used to make me uncomfortable.

As an introvert, I found it scary meeting new people. I often relied on alcohol for liquid confidence. But once I stepped into entrepreneurship, I quickly learned how important it is to meet more people and build your network.

The more people you meet, the luckier you get.

Whether it’s through Toastmasters, BNI, networking events, or even casual conversations at the gym – every new connection expands your perspective and opens up opportunities.

You don’t have to be a social butterfly. I’m not. I prefer deep, one-on-one conversations over big events. But I make an effort to meet people, ask questions, and genuinely connect.

If you’re a natural introvert like me, you can steal my strategy. Make the effort to introduce yourself first (even if it makes you uncomfortable). Be curious about people. Ask questions. And most importantly, LISTEN.

If you can ask questions and actively listen, you will become someone people enjoy being around. You will build your own charisma without having to be the one doing all the talking. The compounding effect of genuine human connection will surprise you.

4. Introduce More People

This has become a new favourite.

Since joining BNI, I’ve learned the immense value of connecting others. Most people are focused on finding opportunities for themselves, but real magic happens when you create opportunities for others.

When you introduce two people who can help each other – whether in business or life – you’re adding value to both. And that value always comes back to you in some way.

I see this even in my coaching work. Often, my role extends beyond finances – I connect clients with trusted professionals who can solve other problems they’re facing.

For example, one client of mine, a builder, was overwhelmed with admin tasks. I introduced him to a service that specializes in helping builders with back-end systems. That one introduction freed up five hours of his week!

So even before you’ve built your own unique value, you can start creating value simply by connecting others.

Luck Follows Smart Behavior

If you take anything from this week’s message, let it be this:

Luck isn’t random – it’s the result of consistent, compounding action.
  • Build more
  • Write more
  • Meet more people
  • Introduce more people
Start with one of these this week. Pick the one that resonates most with you, and just begin.

Over time, you’ll notice more “luck” showing up – but really, it’ll just be the result of smart, consistent behavior.

Something I’ve been Building

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working with my web developer to update my website (long overdue) – danielmarshall.com.au.

I’d love to hear your feedback!

If you have a spare moment, please take a look – and then reply to this newsletter to let me know what you love (or don’t love).

Until next week – keep building, writing, meeting, and connecting. Because that’s how you create your own luck.

Have a great day,
Marshy
